Valinda has a true love for coaching and playing volleyball. She competed on the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) Tour for 13 years, with many top 10 finishes, as well as has her USA Volleyball Sand Volleyball Coaching Certification. She is currently the Head Sand Coach at Mater Dei High school – finishing 3rd and 5th in the Southern Cal region.
As a college volleyball walk-on at The University of Wyoming, Valinda earned a full ride scholarship, captained her team for two years, and was a Three-Time All-Conference Selection in 1984, 1985 & 1987 in the WAC Conference.
Notably, Valinda was Misty May’s (3 time Olympic gold medalist in beach volleyball) first partner on the beach! Valinda was nominated Rookie of the Year her first year playing professional volleyball in 1992. She also won the Jose Cuervo Championship three times (1992, 1993 & 2005) as well as won the Motherlode (largest tournament in the world) in 1992, 1993 and 1997. Valinda won many FIVB international titles in Korea and Mexico as well. Several years ago, she moved to Southern California to continue playing for a Christian Club touring with the Canadian National Volleyball Team and did that for two additional years. Valinda & her husband still play regularly and she thoroughly enjoys training and encouraging young players in the Southern California volleyball community.
Valinda lives in Huntington Beach with her husband, Mark Roche who owns Natural Health Sports physical therapy clinic. Her two children, Blaze (12) and Tanner Roche (18) are athletes, and love the beach.
