If you read our last post about beach volleyball’s increase in popularity in recent years, you might still be wondering why. What makes beach volleyball such a great sport after all? Read on for just a few of our favorite reasons why you should get out on the beach:
It complements indoor volleyball.
That’s right—if you’ve never tried playing on the sand because you’re dedicated to your indoor game, think again. Beach volleyball will help your indoor game in ways you never thought possible. Now, fair warning: if you’re used to flying off the gym floor on your indoor court, you might be a little frustrated the first time you step onto a sand court and find that your hops have all but disappeared. But once you build the muscles to move in the sand, indoor will feel like a piece of cake—that is, if you ever want to step foot indoors again after discovering how awesome beach volleyball is. The only question is what you will do with all your increased strength and mobility.
You get to hang out at the beach.
Talk about the best of both worlds—you’re playing volleyball on the sand with a prime view of the ocean, all while getting some nice vitamin D from the sun.
Meet great people.
Just because you’re not part of a six-person team when you play beach volleyball does not mean that you’re not going to be making friends. In fact, the beach volleyball community is very social and you’ll find great friendships in your partners and opponents alike. The more you play, the more connections you will make.
You become a well-rounded player.
This is a huge benefit to any indoor player because of all those reps that you get playing two-man instead of a six-person —you develop a complete skill set because you will pass, set and hit in almost every rally. Talk about increased volleyball IQ!
